Hogan Loom

A sofa with texture, and space to sit.

A sofa arrangement should leave room for people. Start with fewer pieces than you think you need, then add texture only where the room feels a little flat.

Let one piece lead

Choose an anchor: a patterned throw, a broad draped cover or a pair of large square pillows. The anchor sets the scale of the pattern and gives the smaller pieces something to relate to. If a medallion blanket leads, a plain pillow can provide a resting place for the eye.

Change the shape before adding another color

Two square pillows can look more considered with one smaller rectangle in front. A 20 x 20 in cover and an 11.8 x 19.7 in cover create different outlines. Those are examples from the collection, not a universal formula. Compare them with your sofa’s back height and seat depth.

Keep inserts and covers separate in your planning. A cover-only listing supplies the fabric shell; it does not include the volume inside. Check the insert maker’s size guidance, and do not assume that the displayed pillow has the same fullness as your own insert.

Mix surfaces with a purpose

A flat woven face, a raised waffle texture and a small embroidered detail can sit together because each has a different role. Avoid making every piece equally busy. When the sofa upholstery already has a distinct weave, a quieter solid cover can be the most useful addition.

Repeat a color gently

Choose one color already present in the room and repeat it in a smaller piece. A green cover can relate to a green stripe without matching exactly. Keep an eye on warm and cool undertones in daylight, since screens and lamps can change how a textile looks.

Use the throw as a line

A folded blanket over an arm creates a narrow vertical line. A wide fold across the backrest creates a horizontal band. Try those simple placements before adding another pillow. Let fringed ends fall where they will not drag underfoot.

Finish with a sit-down check

Sit where you normally sit. Can you lean back, reach the side table and move without shifting a pile of pillows? Remove a layer if the arrangement gets in the way. Keep reclining mechanisms and walking paths clear.

Care is part of the combination

Choose cleaning routines you can actually follow. Read each sewn-in label separately; one washable cover does not establish the cleaning method for the throw beside it. Keep unverified cleaning methods out of the routine and ask us if a product detail needs clarification.
